Women’s Sailing is one of the most popular recreational programs on the Island. Open to all female RCYC Members, this weekly program provides a great opportunity to meet other Club Members while improving sailing skills on and off the water.
The program offers sailing on Mondays for beginner to intermediate sailors, with further skill training for women interested in racing on Thursdays.
Please contact us to let us know of your club events so that we can add them for more helpful content.
ABYC Women Sailing WOW
Join us for a fun-filled day of sailing, The Day is Comprised of sharing sailing skills, sailing on each other’s boats, race courses or just a cruise. Meet up with other dedicated women. Learn from other seasoned sailors and skippers. Gain confidence on your boat with a women’s crew. In addition, every Monday evening and Wednesday afternoons we meet up and then go out for a race or sail. Social events are organized throughout the year to build connections and lifelong friendships.
The BYC Women’s Fleet, on the Ottawa River, is part of the largest women’s sailing program in Canada and has developed many excellent sailors and competitors alike. In recent years BYC women have represented the Club at the Bob Yuile Memorial National Capital Regattas c. 1957, Opti North American Championships and the National Women’s Keelboat Championships, to name a few.
The Ottawa River Women’s Interclub Fleet Committee, with representatives from Nepean Sailing Club and Britannia Yacht Club, hosted another day of presentations and workshops on April 25, covering a range of topics from dinghy sailing and cruising to racing strategies for basic and advanced racers. Attendees included sailors from Borealis, Ottawa New Edinburgh Club, Stormont Yacht Club, Centre de Voile Grande-Rivière and Gatineau River Yacht Club.
We have been asked why we continue to hold Women in Wind when women already race in all series of the interclub racing (which has the most weeknight races per season in Canada/ & US clubs). The conference provides an environment where women who are experienced sailors and new members alike can learn or refine sailing skills, connect with other sailors, and build the confidence to become more valuable crew members or knowledgeable helms-women.
